A monastic sanctuary hidden in the mountain forests of Chiang Mai, providing a serene abode conducive to meditative practice.
The International Forest Monastery Chiangmai has been designed by the monastic community to be a refuge for the cultivation of quality monks and laymen, knowledgable in the dhamma, and adept in meditation, for the prosperity of Buddhism at an international level.
iMONASTERY or International Forest Monastery Chiang Mai, proudly supported by the esteemed ‘General Arthit – Phornsan Kamlang-ek Foundation’, is situated amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the National Forest in Papae, Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai. Encompassing a vast area of 5 acre and nestled 900 meters above sea level, this sanctuary is a mere 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Chiang Mai International Airport. Surrounded by majestic mountains, verdant forests, and crystal-clear streams, its temperate climate averaging at 23°C throughout the year, ensures comfort and tranquility for our participants.
Designed to cater to the needs of international monks seeking to deepen their meditation practice and study the profound teachings of Buddhism in the heart of Thailand, iMONASTERY offers comprehensive training programs for both short-term (30 days) and long-term (2 years) stays. With accommodations for up to 50 monks, including 36 huts for trainees and 14 huts for staff members, our facilities are equipped with essential amenities such as a meditation hall, dining area, kitchen, library, and administrative offices. Our goal is to cultivate monks of exceptional conduct and dhamma, empowering them to propagate the wisdom of Buddhism on a global scale.
MONK LIFE PROGRAMMES
Participants will immerse themselves in the procedures of ordination, daily routines, and activities of Theravada Buddhist monks. They will delve into the study of dhamma, practice meditation, and focus on the development of habits and virtues. Throughout the program, participants will receive close guidance from experienced teaching and mentor monks who specialize in caring for international participants.

The monastery grounds, we have a meticulously designed for contemplative practice and provides a tranquil environment for meditation. As Lord Buddha emphasized, meditation requires four suitable conditions, which are the 4 pillars in which the purpose built iMONASTERY has been aspiring to achieve.

Establishment of iMONASTERY
The remarkable iMONASTERY, also known as the International Forest Monastery Chiangmai, under the patronage of the General Arthit – Phornsan Kamlang-ek Foundation, was brought to life in 2022 through the collaborative efforts of Khun Phornsan Kamlang-ek (Phornprapha), Venerable Praputt Kamlang-ek (Phornprapha) Buddhibalo, and Venerable Dr. Narongchai Thanajayo. They aimed to create a haven for Dhamma studies and become a nurturing ground for exceptional international monks from all corners of the globe. From its inception to its daily operations, the unwavering support of the General Arthit – Phornsan Kamlang-ek Foundation has been instrumental in making this dream a reality.
The official opening ceremony was organized on 18th March 2022 with Khun Phornsan Kamlang-ek (Phornprapha) presiding over the ceremony.
On November 1st, 2022, Venerable Phratheppariyat, the Abbot of Chaing Mai, presided over the Kathina ceremony and gilded the signage of iMONASTERY with a gold leaf.
On May 9th, 2022, the ceremony was held to celebrate the official appointment of Venerable Dr. Narongchai Thanajayo as the abbot of iMONASTERY.
